📡 On my Radar

Twenty years ago: Hurricane Katrina hit. After hearing casino owners call the disaster a "silver lining,” I volunteered with friends to help folks recover. We used what we learned to launch a first of its kind mobile legal aid clinic - a “law firm on wheels” in Los Angeles.

Ten years ago: I started this newsletter for us to find actual solutions to problems. Along the way, I met some cool people and we started The Difference Engine at ASU - a way for young people and communities to actually do something about the problems I kept writing about.

Today: exactly ten years since that first newsletter, I'm announcing UnfairNation: The Book. It’s a (short) how-to manual that takes everything I’ve learned writing this newsletter, launching The Difference Engine, and building a mobile legal aid clinic and distills it down to ten things we can do to make a difference. How to organize. What to build. How to fight back in ways that create real change instead of just more noise.

It’s a tool for everyone who does not accept that tariffs, deportations, and dictatorship are our only options.

UnfairNation (the book) comes out spring 2026. I hope you’ll grab a copy for yourself and anyone else who’s frustrated, scared, or angry and asking: what should I be doing right now?
