This moment calls for two things: 1) a compelling vision that accepts the problems in this country and 2) productive and courageous steps we can take - not random firings and tariffs - that make that vision a reality.
Instead we have a complete lack of meaningful leadership.
Here's an example of the way our leaders in Congress, academia, and the law should be thinking:
Pass legislation requiring that when DOGE publicly claims to have found fraud, they must file an official claim within 30 days or face consequences/liability.1
This flips the script. Instead of just complaining about DOGE accessing sensitive data, force Musk to either:
Produce actual evidence of fraud
Stop making vague accusations
Face consequences for empty claims
This approach doesn't just resist—it redirects the energy of the attack. It accepts the premise of finding waste while creating a framework that demands follow-through.
The moment calls for this kind of strategic creativity, not just outrage.
