📡 On my Radar
Healthcare needs a revolution.
People pay $3 for insulin everywhere else in the world, but $300 in the United States. If Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs can remain a profitable business while charging a flat 15% markup, so can others.
A quarter of all bankruptcies in America are due to medical bills people can’t afford to pay. Medical bills are confusing, often delivered late and charge far too much. Laws to curb these costs can do far more to help the economy than any tariff.
Why do I only get good insurance if I have a job? What does a layoff or downsizing have anything to do with my medical condition? Why should my health also suffer at the same time as my pocketbook?
Healthcare should not be connected to our jobs, it should be connected to our health.
We made becoming a doctor so difficult and expensive that wait times last weeks if not months. If doctors aren’t going to democratize medical school education, then let nurse practitioners and physician assistants handle the common cold. Encourage doctors to pursue specialities focused on keeping people alive.
People are hungry for innovative and novel solutions to healthcare.
Every other wealthy country figured this out decades ago, and their people live longer while paying less. As my junior high school P.E. teacher said, “If they can do it, so can you.”
