π‘ On my Radar
The Supreme Court's approval sits at a dismal 30%. Overall confidence in our judicial system has crashed to 35% - down 24 points since 2020.
When a judge tells you to stop a deportation plane mid-flight and you tweet "Oopsie... too late ππ" after landing, you're not just breaking rules. You're breaking the system.
Courts have no army. No enforcement power. The entire system functions on collective agreement that their decisions matter. Hamilton called the judiciary the "least dangerous branch" because it has "neither FORCE nor WILL, but merely judgment."
Courts, like civilization itself, are a shared mass delusion.
An almost paternalistic system that only works if we all collectively believe in it and follow the rules. When our leaders choose not to, that gives us permission to not follow the rules either - and the whole system starts falling apart.
The most powerful thing I think we can do is talk about these issues beyond our bubbles. Have uncomfortable conversations with folks who see things differently. Ask sincere questions. Listen without interrupting. Find common ground on basic principles before diving into partisan specifics. Provide a compelling alternative framework, a different vision of what works.
