Elon Musk wants to cut the relatively small budget of public news outlets like National Public Radio (NPR) and PBS.
Interestingly, the budgets allocated to NASA, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Transportation remain largely unchanged. Over the past decade, these agencies have awarded Musk’s companies like SpaceX and Tesla at least $18 billion in federal contracts.
Funny how Elon Musk’s government gravy train keeps rolling while public broadcasting gets put on the chopping block.
We've seen this show before: in the 1980s attempts to kill public broadcasting backfired when Americans - left and right - stood up for NPR and PBS. In an age of consolidated media and growing division, maybe it’s time to fight for Sesame Street like they did.
