Abolish ICE
The agency America never needed and can't control.
📡 On my Radar
ICE is so bad it’s trying to stop itself.
We should help it.
Over the last week ICE officers have killed two men. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot in Houston while driving his construction crew to work. Joan Sebastian Guerrero was shot in Biddeford, Maine, on his way to his shift. Neither was even the target of the ICE operation.
Then ICE did something it almost never does. It ordered its own officers to halt most vehicle stops.
This is ICE’s cry for help. Answer it. Abolish ICE for good.
Being undocumented is not a crime. Being in the country without authorization is a civil violation. Yet ICE built a criminal enforcement apparatus, armed agents, jails, shackles, around conduct Congress never criminalized.
We were fine before ICE. America ran immigration for 227 years without ICE. And for most of American history - especially when white Europeans were entering the country through Ellis Island - we didn’t even have a land-based border patrol or ICE. The Border Patrol only showed up in 1924, the same year Congress decided who counted as the right kind of immigrant.
Even ICE wants out of ICE. In 2018, most of ICE’s senior criminal investigators formally asked to be split off from the agency. This week, leadership benched its own go-to tactic.
I was the senior civil rights advisor at DHS for nearly a decade - working to curb ICE’s worst excesses. Every safeguard got absorbed. Reform was tried. It failed. The agency is fundamentally broken.
It’s time to abolish it and push for true immigration reform. Vote for candidates who promise to do so.
